Zumbrota is a charming city in Goodhue County, Minnesota. With a population of 3,800 residents, Zumbrota offers a unique location - close to Rochester and an easy 45-minute drive away from the Twin Cities. There are three major highways that pass-through Zumbrota, making it a place where people pass daily, and it is easy to explore neighboring cities.

What was the challenge that led Zumbrota to GOGov?

When Miranda Raasch, Zumbrota's Communications Specialist & Account Technician, was approached about how the city could get urgent information out to the community, she identified an urgent need for a better system. Previously, the only way to communicate urgent matters to the public was a time-consuming process of going door-to-door. The city also wanted to stray away from using social media platforms, since people must seek out information instead of directly receiving it. However, with the implementation of GOGov's Notify product, the city can now quickly and effectively communicate with the community with their city-branded mobile app, GOZumbrota.

After doing some research, Miranda stumbled upon GOGov and participated in a demonstration and loved the app. Another factor that was considered was with going with other companies that offered a similar product, Zumbrota would not need other elements that went with the competitor’s app developments. GOGov’s simple and direct notification feature was all that they needed.

How is Zumbrota using GOGov Today?

The city of Zumbrota just completed a $6 million project, which was a road reconstruction in the main arteries in Zumbrota. GOZumbrota was the formal communication platform where information was given to the public. This information gave updates on road closures, water shut-off due to underground construction, or any ordinance such as an internet line or electrical line. It was very helpful having this information easy to access during this large project in Zumbrota.

At the start of this project, the city was receiving multiple calls a day regarding information on the project. When people were redirected to the app, and got comfortable using it, the phone calls significantly decreased to the city.

Future Plans for Zumbrota

The city of Zumbrota plans to continue using the notification system for everyday updates and large-scale projects. One thing Miranda had mentioned was that the app is helping the city become “paperless”, eliminating the use of flyers, or publications to get information out. The city is pleased with the app and would recommend it to any other municipalities considering improving communication within the community!
