About Caldwell

Caldwell is a village of roughly 1,700 residents and the county seat of Noble County, Ohio, sitting along the West Fork of Duck Creek about 23 miles north of Marietta. Founded in 1857 and named for Joseph and Samuel Caldwell, the original owners of the town site, the village grew with the arrival of the Pennsylvania Railroad in the 1870s. Caldwell is also home to the Thorla-McKee Well, dug in 1814 by settlers searching for salt brine and widely recognized as the first oil-producing well in North America.
