About Echols County, Georgia
Echols County is a rural county of about 3,700 residents (2020 Census) in south Georgia, situated along the Florida state line southeast of Valdosta. Established in 1858 and named for Robert Milner Echols, the county is one of Georgia's least-populated, and its county seat, Statenville, is one of only a handful of unincorporated county seats in the state. Pine forests, farmland, and the Alapaha River define the landscape, giving Echols County its quiet, close-knit small-town character.
