Genoa Charter Township Featured in Michigan Township Association Magazine for Mobile App Success

We're thrilled to celebrate Genoa Charter Township (Livingston County, Michigan) being featured in the Michigan Township Association's July magazine for their outstanding success with community engagement through their GOGov-powered mobile app, "MyGenoa."

Since launching in April 2025, the MyGenoa app has delivered impressive results that showcase the power of modern local government technology:

  • 500+ residents have downloaded the app in just three months
  • Town hall attendance tripled from an expected 15 to over 50 participants
  • Rapid implementation completed within one month of contract signing
  • Streamlined operations by eliminating duplicative notification systems

Transforming Community Engagement

Supervisor Kevin Spicher emphasized the app's impact on community involvement: "We are ecstatic with the results so far. It's a really good way to disseminate important information. For example, we are in the process of re-doing our master plan and are trying to get more public involvement. My goal was to get 15 people to attend. We ended up with 50 people in attendance and it was a really productive meeting. That blew me away."

Trustee Todd Walker, who championed the app initiative, noted the smooth implementation process: "Working with GOGov... it was a very smooth process. GOGov helped with set-up, marketing, offering ideas and answering questions that we didn't even know we had. Within a month of signing the contract, we were up and running."

Reaching All Demographics

One of the most surprising outcomes has been the app's broad demographic appeal. While initially expecting to primarily reach younger residents, the township discovered that older residents, including those 65+, are actively using the platform. This cross-generational engagement demonstrates the universal appeal of convenient, accessible government services.

Smart Implementation Strategy

The township's approach to notifications has been both strategic and effective. Rather than overwhelming residents, they typically share one notification most weekdays, covering topics from meeting reminders and construction updates to community events and service changes. Users can customize notification preferences based on their interests and needs.

Setting an Example for Michigan Townships

The success in Genoa Charter Township is inspiring other Michigan communities. As mentioned in the article, Casnovia Township (Muskegon County) is exploring how a similar app could "better serve area residents with pertinent local government information and expand the township information database."

Looking Forward

Walker reflected on the broader value of the platform: "We are very proud of our app, and I'm excited about how well it's doing so far. Any opportunity to reach out to your constituents, and let them know about their community and their services, is a good opportunity."

Supervisor Spicher added that the app, combined with their livestreaming initiatives, has been "more than worth the investment we put into them."
