Located in Tuscarawas County along Sugar Creek, the Village of Strasburg is home to about 2,835 residents. Founded in 1828 and named after the European city of Strasbourg, the community boasts a long history of small-town pride and close-knit connections. Covering just over one square mile, Strasburg continues to grow while investing in its future.
The Village is currently planning a major project that will bring a new community center, police station, library, and food pantry together under one roof—demonstrating its commitment to modern resources for residents while maintaining its hometown character. Strasburg is also known for local landmarks such as the Lynn Drive-In Theatre and its active schools, churches, and businesses that serve as anchors of community life.
With its balance of history, small-town charm, and forward-looking development, Strasburg stands out as a vibrant place to live and work in northeast Ohio.
Keeping residents informed has always been a top priority for Strasburg leadership. While the Village had recently launched a new website with the goal of providing a collaborative space, it became clear that the platform didn't fully meet their communication needs.
As Mayor Bruce Metzger explained, the Village wasn't looking for two-way collaboration—they needed a reliable way to share important information quickly and effectively. When the opportunity to adopt GOGov arose, it aligned perfectly with Strasburg's goals, providing the communication solution the Village had been searching for.
When Strasburg introduced GOGov's citizen notification platform, Village leadership branded it as "My Strasburg Notifications," positioning it as a vital safety and communication tool designed specifically for residents. The team promoted the app through multiple channels—distributing flyers at community events like the Back-to-School Bash, sharing QR codes on Facebook, and encouraging sign-ups through word of mouth. This multi-channel approach made it easy for residents to connect with their local government and receive timely updates.
Key community partners quickly joined the platform. The school superintendent, for instance, created an account to use My Strasburg Notifications for keeping parents informed about school closures and urgent schedule changes. This collaboration demonstrates how the platform strengthens communication beyond municipal operations to benefit the broader community.
Today, multiple Village departments rely on My Strasburg Notifications to deliver quick, reliable updates. The police department alerts residents about traffic accidents, detours, and road reopenings, while the Streets and Water Departments share service updates such as hydrant flushing schedules and water main breaks. Even in its early stages, the mobile platform has proven to be a trusted tool for keeping residents safe, informed, and connected.
My Strasburg Notifications has already made a meaningful impact. Residents frequently express appreciation for receiving timely updates, and several have downloaded the app immediately after learning about it from Village staff. This enthusiastic adoption highlights the platform's accessibility and its role in strengthening the connection between the Village and its residents.
While Strasburg is a small municipality with roughly 36 employees, the notification platform has proven invaluable for everyday communication. Alerts about traffic incidents, road closures, and service updates help residents respond quickly and stay safe—demonstrating the practical value of real-time notifications for communities of all sizes.
Strasburg plans to expand its use of My Strasburg Notifications for upcoming projects and major community initiatives. The Village's new community center, police station, and library will rely on the platform to keep residents informed about groundbreaking ceremonies, construction schedules, and project milestones—ensuring the community stays connected throughout every phase of development.
As the Village continues to grow and modernize, My Strasburg Notifications will remain central to keeping residents engaged and informed.
Mayor Bruce Metzger encourages other municipalities to consider adopting a notification platform like My Strasburg Notifications:
"Everybody's constantly looking for ways to improve their communications with residents and the community. With this tool, you can put the word out and know that your population of subscribers actually receives it. You can write anything you want in the paper, but there's no guarantee anyone will read it. To me, it's kind of like assured communications."
