Implementation & Onboarding

While the initial implementation took place before Nichole Squirrell, Senior Administrator, joined the city, expanding GOGov across departments was seamless. With support from the GOGov team and a simple one-sheet training guide, departments were able to onboard quickly.

Thanks to the platform's intuitive design, teams were up and running the same day. What began with a single department soon became embedded into daily workflows across nearly all city departments.

How Dana Point Uses GOGov Day-to-Day

Dana Point uses both Citizen Requests and Citizen Notifications through its mobile app, Report to DP, to manage daily operations and internal workflows. Citizen Requests serve as the primary tool for receiving, assigning, and resolving service requests, while notifications allow Dana Point to send important information to their community.

Nichole and her team rely on GOGov to manage work orders, align departments, and generate reports. Reporting that once took months to compile can now be completed in just a few clicks, saving time and improving accuracy.

Residents consistently praise the app's ease of use, including saved user information, automatic location detection, and quick request submission. For staff, precise location tracking has eliminated confusion and reduced follow-up communication, especially for issues like graffiti or street maintenance.

Recent platform updates have further streamlined workflows, making it easier to upload and manage information while cutting out unnecessary steps.

Results: Long-Term Visibility and Accountability

GOGov has given Dana Point long-term visibility into City operations, allowing staff to track activity over time and use that data to inform future decisions. This has been especially impactful for traffic safety, infrastructure projects, and coordination with external utility providers.

Documentation That Drives Accountability

"For our traffic safety and streetlight repairs, all of it is tracked in GOGov. We can see the dates we were told things would happen, the dates they didn't, and when work was completed. There's no arguing because we keep everything," said Nichole Squirrell, Senior Administrator.

Because all documentation lives in one system, teams no longer rely on scattered records or external storage.

"We don't have to take the storage anywhere else. It all lives in one place, and that's huge for us."

Expanding Use for Community Communication

Looking ahead, Dana Point plans to continue expanding its use of GOGov for proactive communication, including mailers and updates for major roadway projects and community events.

"We started using it for mailers and updates for big roadway projects and events, and that's going to be really helpful as we move into our next projects," Nichole shared.

Advice for Other Local Governments

When asked what advice she would offer other municipalities considering GOGov, Nichole was quick to respond.

"You just have to get in it and work in it for 15 or 20 minutes, and you're sold. It's the easiest, most user-friendly system, and it really encompasses everything you need."

She also highlighted the platform's flexibility and long-term value.

"There are so many ways to customize it. Nothing goes away—it's all there."
